Applications in corn cultivation

The above strategy shows per phase which minerals are crucial for a healthy corn crop. The N-xt liquid fertilizers are perfectly applicable for this purpose. The high efficiency saves a lot of nitrogen for the same kg of dry matter and starch. Important is the unique cooperation of N-xt Fertilizers products and soil biology and thus the interaction with the given slurry. The additional additives such as Ferti-Release and Ferti-Vital also have an important contribution to this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tot wanneer kan ik nog een bladmeststof in maïs spuiten?

Corn can have a very difficult time really growing through in the early stages of growth. Often this has to do with conditions, weather (stress) and nutrient availability. After all, a full root system has not yet developed. Spraying an N-xt foliar fertilizer (e.g. the N-xt N18 Ca Mg Mn) can be very helpful to support the corn plant in its growth and give it the energy and nutrients to grow through this period.

You can also spray with another N-xt Foliar Fertilizer at a later stage, 5-6 leaf, to give a boost of absorbable nitrogen and trace elements. You can do this while you can still drive a machine decently through the corn.

1

Slurry

An important source of minerals is the slurry application in corn. Depending on your total available slurry also determines your dosage.

Advice:

  • Dose the slurry as much as possible full-field so that the entire soil can benefit along with the corn plant.
  • For better uptake of nutrients from the slurry, add Ferti-Release at step 2!
2

N-xt Soil Fertilizer

Nitrogen, phosphate and trace elements can be dosed during seeding in the row through the proper application technique. The best method is in the row next to the seed using a knife coulter (as drawn in this example. This could technically also be done after seeding, only then an additional pass must be made.

Another option is to spray after seeding with the field sprayer (and the 7-hole nozzles) to give this starter fertilizer. Note; this application is slightly less efficient than a row application next to the seed.

Advice:

The standard formulations used in corn cultivation are:

  • N-xt N24 S B Zn
  • N-xt NP22-5 S B Zn
  • N-xt NP18-14 S B Zn
  • MaizeExtra22 Plus

The choice of fertilizer formulation depends on the phosphate space on the farm and deficiencies in the soil. Feel free to ask us for advice.

Ferti-Release

This additive promotes soil biology at the beginning of the season and contributes in particular to the absorption of phosphate, potassium and trace elements from the slurry and your soil. Especially in the corn strategy, this addition also contributes to increased starch and trace levels in the silage.

Advice:

Dose 0.25 ltr/ha of Ferti-Release (in the row).

This can be mixed with the (example) N-xt N24S B Zn when seeding in the row. So it can easily be sprayed as one application.

Ferti-Repel

Trip Needles Prevention.
Prevention of zip needles can be achieved by avoiding the odor emitted by plant roots in the soil, as this odor attracts zip needles. A good soil environment, with good structure that drains CO2 quickly, helps reduce this odor.

Ferti Repel-R is a product that masks this odor and makes the environment unattractive to zip needles. It can easily be added to row fertilizer in combination with N-xt N24S B Zn, for example .

There is also Ferti-Repel Micro, a microgranulate that can be applied via a granular bucket. Both products contain not only a repellent against wireworms, but also stimulate crop growth.

Recommendation:

2-3 ltr/ha for Ferti Repel-R
(or) 30-40 kg/ha for Ferti-Repel Micro

3

N-xt Leaf

The post-emergence phase can often be stressful for corn plants due to low temperatures, zipper needles and weed control, among other things. Absorption of minerals through the soil can then be difficult.

Through an N-xt foliar spray, combined with Ferti-Vital, you will easily help the corn plants through this period.

Advice:

30-50 ltr/ha N-xt N18 Ca Mg Mn

  • Spray 30 ltr/ha in the initial stage and you can spray 50 ltr/ha in the 5-6 leaf stage
  • Spray on a dry crop
  • Spray with a fine droplet (slotted nozzle) and little water (max 150 ltr so 200 ltr total)

Ferti-Vital

Weed control in Corn

Weed control can take a strong "hit" and inhibit the corn plant. Because recovery takes time and the plant must expend energy during a crucial growth phase for cob development, this can lead to yield loss.

Ferti-Vital increases the vitality of the plant and helps it cope better with stress factors such as herbicides. Adding Ferti-Vital to a weed control increases the resilience of the corn, which also increases the effectiveness of the weed control. This makes it possible to achieve the same results with a lower herbicide dose, keeping the cost of the Ferti-Vital application neutral.

Adding Ferti-Vital to an N-xt Foliar Fertilizer application has the same positive effects.

Recommendation:

2 ltr/ha of Ferti-Vital

  • Add to the mix of weed control
  • Add to the N-xt foliar fertilizer spray.

4

N-xt Leaf

You can also spray again with a N-xt Foliar Fertilizer at a later stage, 5-6 leaf, to give a boost of absorbable nitrogen and trace elements. You can do this while you can still drive a machine decently through the corn.

Through an N-xt foliar spray, combined with Ferti-Vital, you help the corn plants get through the rest of the season resilient and protected from foliar and fungal infections.

Advice:

50 ltr/ha N-xt N18 Ca Mg Mn

  • Spray on a dry crop
  • Spray with a fine drop and little water (150 ltr/ha, so 200 ltr total)

Ferti-Vital

Ferti-Vital is a powerful biostimulant that activates the natural defenses of plants. It increases resistance to both biotic stress (such as fungi, bacteria and insects) and abiotic stress (such as heat, drought, cold, hail, wind or machine damage). Ferti-Vital is the only foliar fertilizer within the Ferti-Line and acts directly through the leaf on the plant.

Recommendation:

2 ltr/ha Ferti-Vital (add to N-xt foliar fertilizer

5

Ferti-Soil

After harvesting, it is important to support the activity of the biology so that crop residues, especially the woody stem parts of maize plants, are quickly broken down and mineral sequestration is optimized.

Ferti-Soil activates and supports this biology and ensures optimal humification processes.

Recommendation:

1 ltr/ha Ferti-Soil

Spray with plenty of water (400 ltr/ha) just before incorporation of crop residues and/or sowing of green manure.

6

Ferti-Life

An active soil biology also throughout the fall is very important. At this stage, the crop has been harvested and crop growth stops but the activity of your soil does not. Old crop and root residues are broken down, converted and stored in the soil(humification). After which, during the winter period, the soil structure can improve and conversions continue due to the (continued) fungal activity with Ferti-Life.

Advice:

25 ltr/ha Ferti-Life

  • Spray with the field sprayer after harvest or during/after sowing a green manure crop.
  • You can also spray in early spring (after clearing green manure or pulling up the land):

Recommendation is then 40 ltr/ha Ferti-Life

Ferti-Life creates the right conditions for mold growth, a highly underestimated soil process that prepares your soil for a good start of the next season.

Did you know:

Soil life is always the first "to the table" in spring! So be aware of How we treat our soils in winter (but also in early spring). make sure that soil life can survive well in winter so that laid down minerals can mineralize nicely again in spring.
